Multi Vehicle Accident Involving New Jersey Transit Bus Injuries 5 People

Recent multi vehicle, chain reaction accident involving transit bus leaves at least 5 bus passengers injured

Any time we board a bus as a passenger, we are entrusting our safety to the driver of the bus. And while most of the time we do in fact arrive safely at our destination, there is still a risk of the bus we are on being involved in an accident. While any accident can cause serious traffic backups and delays, they can also cause serious injury. Because a bus carries many more passengers than a typical vehicle, accidents involving a bus usually also include injuries to more passengers.

On Monday, October 1, 2018 a New Jersey transit bus traveling from the area of Secaucus, New Jersey to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City was involved in a multi vehicle accident as it traveled in the exclusive bus lane (XBL) exiting the Lincoln Tunnel. A car traveling in the westbound helix coming out of the tunnel struck the bus traveling in the eastbound bus lane, and then skidded into another westbound vehicle before coming to a stop. The driver and four passengers of the bus were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, and information about the injuries to the drivers of the vehicles was not available, although Port Authority police have indicated they also are not considered life-threatening.

Strict statute of limitations for bus accident claims

While the statute of limitations for most personal injury claims brought forth in the State of New Jersey is two years, it is important to know there are stricter rules relating to claims which will involve the government. The statute of limitations means you must file a lawsuit within two years from the date the accident occurred. If you fail to bring forth suit within this time frame, your claim will not be heard by the courts and you will not be able to recover any compensation for your injuries or damages. Additionally, in any case in which you intend to file suit against the government, you must provide formal written notice of your intent to file a claim within 90 days from the date the accident occurred. If you or a loved one were injured in an accident involving a bus or another party of the government, don’t waste any more precious time before speaking with an attorney about your rights.
